Touching Hearts & Minds Since 1972
A Lasallian Educational Community
Dear Friends, Colleagues, Board Members, Lasallian Associates and Guests,
Thank you for visiting our Martin de Porres Lasallian Family. Our web page will provide you with a extensive experience of our ministry of “touching the hearts” of those entrusted to our care.
At Martin de Porres we reach out and embrace all those whose lives are in some significant ways “at-risk.” Each of our programs provides an opportunity for our children and young men and women to experience success in academics, as well as in social, behavioral and interpersonal relationships.
For the past 38 years we have continued to be a “home away from home” for all whose lives we have had the privilege to influence and to touch.
During the past 8 years we have experienced significant growth in our desire to respond to the needs presented to us by those we serve. As you travel through this web site you will meet our youngsters and our staff at Martin de Porres Elementary and Middle School in Queens, Martin de Porres High School in Rosedale, Martin de Porres Career Academy in Elmont, our Youth Centers in Queens and Elmont, our Group Homes in Elmhurst and Springfield Gardens, and our newly opened Group Residence in Ozone Park and Lasallian Formation Center in Elmont..
We would welcome you to visit one of our program sites to experience faith and zeal in action and a creative, disciplined, and caring approach to engaging students in educational and personal experiences that are life-giving and life-transforming.

WHEN HEARTS ARE TOUCHED!
Daily Reflection
Be mindful of what matters in teaching and learning and in life!
Betty Garner has been a teacher for over forty years and she describes herself as a lifelong learner. She asks us to think about those critical elements of teaching and learning that have to be present if we are to be effective educators. Some of these critical elements are acceptance, trust, caring, flexibility, enthusiasm and a personal relationship with students. Too often, we can get caught up in the busywork and peripheral issues that take so much time and energy. When we recognize that some things matter more than others in learning and in life, we are better able to greatly reduce our stress by prioritizing what gets attention.
