At Martin De Porres we believe that all children have the capacity to learn and to achieve, no matter how severe their needs or problems. We expect our students to develop to their highest potential, those skills that will maximize their ability to be independent and to contribute constructively to their community. We structure the curriculum by creating an appropriate blend of academic, affective, and practical learning experiences for each child.
The educational component located on the ground level of the Residence is set up as a fully functional high school that adheres to the New York State educational standards. Each classroom is set up for six students with a teacher, teacher assistant, and a crisis specialist. Students at the residence have access to all of the services and facilities of the other MDP school sites, which would include a vocational and an academic high school.
Students are scheduled for several educational trips during the year. These trips are designed to enhance student’s educational experience as well as give them a broader view of the world.
